USAID commissioned the Higher Education Landscape Analysis (HELA) to take stock of the depth of its HE programming across sectors and regions. The HELA found that during fiscal years 2014-2018, USAID implemented five primary activity types.

Here are five recommendations the Higher Education Landscape Analysis team made to USAID taking into account the lessons learned, challenges, and gaps the review identified. 

In Morocco, it’s often the more educated people that are most likely to be un- or under-employed. In fact, the unemployment rate among those with degrees is 17.1%. 

Government and development actors are increasingly understanding the value of higher education investments. Higher education plays a unique and catalytic role in developing individuals and societies. And yet, myths about how USAID defines higher education, as well as its benefits, access, and financial strain abound.

Higher education has a unique role in preparing learners with the advanced knowledge and skills they need to succeed in today’s global economy.

A recent report by the Inter-American Dialogue shows that education in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) over the past 2 decades has been, in many ways, a success story. Since the turn of the century, major efforts by donors, governments, and civil society have drawn millions of children to school across all levels, countries, and socioeconomic groups.
