Join the Global Book Alliance in Providing Reading Materials to Children Affected by COVID-19
Most of the 1.5 billion children and youth now out of school lack access in their home environment to reading material in languages they use and understand.
From April 8th to May 29th the Global Book Alliance (GBA), in which USAID participates along with 13 other organizations, is mobilizing to meet this challenge by setting up a sprint to help learning supporters of all types translate children’s reading books into new languages.
Who should participate?
Anyone who can write in English and another language can join this effort to translate children’s books into local languages. Education ministries, teachers, donor missions, non-governmental organisations, technology companies, parents and others who can reach children with digital reading resources are in particular encouraged to take part.
What happens next?
The Global Digital Library (GDL) will conduct a standard quality assurance procedure on all translations. Families and users worldwide can then locate the openly licensed translations through the GDL and its partner platforms, as well as on offline educational applications, (for those with inconsistent or no internet access), such as Kolibri.
The more translations there are, the more resources will be available for eventual distribution to homes and communities. Register to participate here.
