Improving Children's Learning and Development in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
Policy Brief
The International Rescue Committee (IRC)'s Learning in a Healing Classroom (LHC) initiative provided Congolese teachers with professional development opportunities and training on how to integrate social-emotional learning principles in reading and math instruction. This policy brief summarizes the results of an impact evaluation conducted by NYU Global Ties for Children. We found that LHC significantly improved student's perceptions of the supportiveness and safety of their environments, as well as their reading and math skills, in the first year of implementation.
