Reading at Home: A New Chapter
Join the World Bank’s Education team on Thursday, 10 June, 11.00 am – 12.30 pm EDT for an online event focusing on why accessing, sharing, and enjoying books at home has never been more critical.
Reading at home has many benefits. But too many children have few or no opportunities to read at home. Many families don’t have access to age-appropriate books in languages children understand. These missed opportunities have consequences: 53% of children in low-and middle-income countries are living in learning poverty, unable to read and understand a simple text by age 10.
All children should have the chance to learn anywhere, anytime. Please join the team to hear from speakers who are working on initiatives to increase access to books and promote reading around the world. The team will share an update on the World Bank’s Read@Home initiative designed to get quality reading and learning materials into the homes of hard-to-reach families, in languages children understand and with support for parents, as well as to address the procurement and distribution challenges that hold back efforts to get more and better books to children and families.
