USAID Administrator Mark Green on the 5-Year Strategy for International Assistance to the World's Most Vulnerable Children

I am proud to share with you the new Advancing Protection and Care for Children in Adversity:  A U.S. Government Strategy for International Assistance (APCCA). This five-year plan outlines the U.S. Government’s commitment and approach to promote the development, care, dignity, and safety of the world’s most-vulnerable children and their families in support of our partner countries’ Journeys to Self-Reliance.
 
This work is not new to the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).  Since 2006, we have led the implementation of the whole-of-Government approach to fight for and help children in adversity.  The new Strategy is the culmination of a year-long engagement with multiple Agency Operating Units, U.S. Government interagency partners, civil-society, faith-based organizations, professional networks and associations, and public and private donors.
 
The Strategy provides a basis for continued technically-sound collaboration between the public and private sectors alike to advance the Journey to Self Reliance. It is based on three evidence-based, interrelated, and mutually reinforcing objectives:  (1) Build Strong Beginnings; (2) Put Family First; and, (3) Protect Children from Violence.
 
In the coming months, we will work with our partners to develop an Implementation Plan.  In the meantime, please join me in thanking all of our Bureaus, Independent Offices, Missions, and Federal colleagues involved in this major undertaking, as we work toward a world in which all children thrive, free from danger and deprivation, within protective, loving families.
