Creative Commons Workshop Training
Have you ever needed guidance on how to apply Creative Commons licensing to a new early grade reading program teacher's guide? Or wondered how to properly attribute text adapted from an existing resource for your student reader?
If these or similar issues related to the publication of early grade reading materials have surfaced in your work, the Reading within Reach (REACH) initiative invites you to review a recording of a recent training, "Guidance and Best Practices on Using Creative Commons Licensing for Early Grade Reading Program Resources." The training provided information, guidance, and USAID policies for open licensing of early grade reading program materials.
Presenters were Meredith Jacob, Assistant Director of the Program on Information Justice and Intellectual Property at American University; Gayle Girod, Chief Innovation Counsel for the Global Development Lab, and the Bureau for Economic Growth, Education, and Environment; and Rebecca Rhodes, Acting Team Lead, United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Reading Team. The training was facilitated by Aristarick Lyimo, Curriculum and Training Specialist; and Alison Pflepsen, Reading Program Specialist, of REACH.
Presenters provided an overview of copyright and open licensing and described how Creative Commons licensing works. They also addressed key issues relating to copyrights under USAID awards. The session concluded with a discussion of steps for success when planning for copyright and open licensing, and a lively discussion with participants sharing their experiences and asking a wide range of questions.
