Vamos Ler! (Let's Read)
This activity is focused on improving early grade reading outcomes in 3,500 schools in Nampula and Zambezia, Mozambique, through teaching young children to read in local languages while acquiring emergent skills in Portuguese as a second language. The activity will engage families, communities and local civil society organizations to promote early grade reading through training to school councils, parents, and caregivers. The activity builds the capacity of the Ministry of Education and Human Development by expanding its Bilingual Education Strategy. It also works directly within local government structures to build capacity in early grade reading and school management by giving them responsibility for supervision, coaching and training of early grade reading teachers.
